Lighting Pods - (close-up shot of two of the seven pieces)

Furniture and Lighting Design - Fall 2001

The problem was to design and build a lighting system through the observation of light. I designed seven individual "light pods."

Materials used were tissue paper, vellum, modge podge, hot glue, electric light fixtures and incandescent bulbs.

This lighting system is reflective of my personal aesthetic. I was inspired by my interest in how light creates pattern and texture in both natural and artificial environments. I used my own personal photography as well as that of Gordon Parks and others as reference materials. Natural patterns, textures and colors influenced the forms. I wanted to create one of a kind, individual pieces.
